Rihanna "Rude Boy" breaks record

Rihanna’s “Rude Boy” at #1 for its fifth week (new list of most weeks at #1 for a solo female artist in the 2000s)

Rihanna is again just waiting patiently to take away Beyonce’s throne. Little by little the Barbarian star has been tracing if not making competition for Knowles ever since her first number one “SOS”, back in 2006.

This year, Rihanna edges out her competition with her sixth #1 song, “Rude Boy”. This track allows her to be the solo female artist this decade with most number one singles on the Billboard Hot 100. Knowles, of course, is right behind her with five. Which says a lot, considering Beyonce’s first hit song Crazy In Love” (ft Jay Z) rang the bell three years before Rihanna did the same (not to mention Destiny’s Child success for at least four years prior).

Like reported weeks ago, Beyonce has spent the most weeks at number one this decade for a solo female artist. But in that report, Alicia Keys was at number two, and Rihanna at number three. By now, Rihanna is right behind Beyonce with twenty-four weeks at number, as B has thirty-six.

Here are all of Rihanna’s #1 songs:

“SOS” 3 weeks (May 13th-May 27th 2006)

“Umbrella” 7 weeks (June 9th - July 21st 2007)

“Take a Bow” 1 week (May 24th 2008)

“Disturbia” 2 weeks (August 23rd – August 30th 2008)

“Live your Life” (w T.I.) 6 weeks (October 18th, November 15th- December 6th, December 20th 2008)

“Rude Boy” 5 weeks (March 27th-April 24th 2010)

Here is the UPDATED list for most weeks at #1 in 2000s for a solo female artist:

Beyonce* (36 weeks)

Rihanna (24 weeks)

Alicia Keys (22 weeks)

Mariah Carey (19 weeks)

[tie] Jennifer Lopez (15 weeks) (Ke$ha**)

Ashanti (12 weeks)

Christina Aguilera (11 weeks)

[tie] Janet Jackson^ & Kelly Rowland* (10 weeks)

* Both Knowles and Rowland share #1s with DC (see below); and Fergie, although having 34 weeks at number altogether (with Black Eyed Peas), only six weeks between 2006-2007 are solo:

Black Eyed Peas (28 weeks)

Destiny’s Child (16 weeks)

** Ke$ha kept “Tik Tok” at #1 for nine weeks in 2010, but her collaboration with Flo Rida (2009’s “Right Round”) was unaccredited.

^Jackson is still the only artist on this list that didn’t have a #1 collaboration. All others have been featured or featured another artist.
